OUR STORY

My father (Calvin Jr), mother (Lisa), sister (Carrie) and I (Trey) were blessed to grow up on my Opa's (grandfather) large farm with creeks, fields and hills on the banks of the majestic Catawba River. My Oma (grandmother), Jo Ann, and Opa (grandfather), Calvin Sr, were the best grandparents a kid could ever hope for. My father and  grandfather hand built the cabin that I grew up in. I have farmed, hiked, camped, and swam on this farm and in the river with my Oma, Opa, parents, and sister all my life. Opa grew gardens that would put even the best farmers to shame and worked outside all day every day in the summer on this farm after he retired from his medical practice, where he delivered or stitched up folks in this community. Opa was smart, kind, adventurous, fair, and he loved me more than I will probably ever know. Opa loved this farm and nothing was more peaceful to him than sitting down by the river at our river front site. I have been blessed to camp and play here since before I can remember with my grandparents and parents, so now I want to share this magical experience with you. Opa, Dad and I share far more than just a name, we share a philosophy of hospitality, kindness and preservation.

In 2019 my Opa passed away and I was inspired to share what he built with you. The photo below is of my Opa, cousin and myself (on his knee) down by the river. I still love walking out on those rocks and looking over the river! I love this place I call home and know you will treasure this place as much as I do!

"Attocoa"

Local landmark and popular hiking destination Table Rock, was called “Attocoa” by the Cherokee Indians. The mountain was a mystic altar for sacred ceremonies. One of Burke County’s most notable natural landmarks, Table Rock towers at 3950 feet above sea level and, not surprisingly, it resembles a table. The views overlooking the Gorge from Table Rock are  truly breathtaking. Attocoa is pronounced 'at - oh - co- ah'.
