Guest Experience

I can’t say enough about how AMAZING this camp is. It’s beautiful, situated right on the Catawba river. Plenty of room for tents with a big campfire ring, tons of wood, a picnic table, shelves to keep your stuff dry, and even a potable water source! It’s private and secluded and perfect for dogs. It is clear that the owners love and care about this property along with the guests who are lucky enough to get to stay here. So much work is attention to detail is put into managing this property. They even came down and helped us light a fire after it had been raining most of the day and everything was wet. The hospitality knew no ends. We had an amazing, relaxing weekend just hanging about by the river watching the kayakers go by. So looking forward to my next visit!!

Absolutely beautiful a diamond that has yet to be found by most. Hosts are super helpful, accommodating, passionate, and have a yearning to improve the overall space and camping experience. We loved learning about the history of the land and where we camped. Restrooms are close, we had running water at our location, and an initial stack of firewood was provided. Super pet friendly, loved hiking the trails, other camp sites were no where near our site, and we enjoyed the privacy. Trillions out of a trillions stars (10 out of 5). Highly recommended. You know I'll be back!

This place is the most magical place to camp by a beautiful river. We are booking another trip as soon as we can! We camped right on the water with river sounds and the view of the stars that I will always remember!! The people that run this camp are extraordinary!!

Lovely campsite. Each of their sites has its own unique little charm to it. The hosts are extremely helpful with recommendations for hikes in the area and are clearly engaged in making this campsite as top notch as possible.

I’d give it a billion stars if I could! For someone who hasn’t gone camping in at least 20 years - what an incredible reintroduction! We booked our stay for 3 nights over the 4th of July weekend thanks to a last minute cancellation and it was everything we needed to reset from Covid-work-life balance stresses. I was a little iffy when I saw “primitive” but I’m so glad my boyfriend didn’t let me talk myself out of it. Our campsite was just above the river and we could hear it all day long, it was so peaceful and relaxing to listen to the water. Our campsite was perfect: clean and cleared out while still maintaining the integrity of the surrounding nature; there was plenty of room for 2 tents, all our stuff for a 3 night stay (I’m an over packer!), an area for our 2 dogs to relax and sprawl out, and enough room for us to sit comfortably around the campfire. The property itself is surprisingly so close to Morganton and any store you might need to visit for whatever reason. With that being said; we still felt so wonderfully removed from everything else. Our 2 city/beach dogs who have NEVER gone camping before also did so well here. They were free to walk around off leash and we even had some furry visitors from the neighboring campsite come say hello every morning and all tails were wagging. We even rented kayaks one day and started upstream at the fish hatchery/dam and floated past Camp Attacoa and all the way down to the public pull out. We had the best time doing this even after the big puppy flipped the canoe!! This family has a wonderful piece of heaven that they willingly want to share with others and I am so happy that I stumbled across them on FB. They were such gracious hosts and we can’t wait to book our next trip here as soon as possible!

Nice private sites, lush forest, all you can hear is the sound of the river and the creatures of the forest. The property owners (Calvin II & Calvin III) were helpful, hospitable, gracious and kind. Perfect spot to stay for hiking trips in Western NC. Family friendly.

I just spent the weekend on the river front campsite at Camp Attocoa. I’m not exaggerating when I say this was the best camping experience I have had! Great location which is convenient to many state parks, hiking trails, kayaking, the Morganton downtown area, and most importantly- peace and quiet! The Acuff family wants to share their little slice of heaven with others. The campsites are spread out- you won’t see another camper unless you are walking back to the parking area. My riverfront site was unbelievable! Rock outcrops over the Catawba River made for a great perch to watch the wildlife, wave to kayakers, sit and watch the sunrise with a hot cup of coffee, or sit and try a little fishing. There is water at each site and a picnic table, and porta-toilet convenient to for all sites. I love the tractor delivery of your gear when you arrive and the ride out as well- it’s a white glove experience all the way. I had great communication with Trey when I was booking the weekend- and also with Mr. Calvin and Ms. Lisa on departure. I will be booking another weekend very soon. Camp Attocoa is small enough to care and be able to give world class service. Thanks for an amazing, relaxing weekend- I was able to unplug and enjoy y’all’s little slice of heaven! Thank you!

Awesome campground. With only a few spots, privacy is one of the greatest amenities here. Camped for two nights and had a nice 20 minute commute to the Linville gorge. I will definitely be staying again.

We stayed at Camp Attacoa for three nights and fell in love with the property and the people. Calvin Jr. and Calvin III were the best hosts! They made sure we had all we needed to have a wonderful camping weekend. The firewood was ready, the sites were clean, the port a potty was in great condition and their suggestions of things to do around the property were perfect for our crew’s first trip there. We fished, fed horses, watched the stars come out in the field surrounded by complete peace and darkness and had plenty of adventures walking in the woods and seeing the river. I cannot recommend this place enough if you’re looking for primitive camping and a place to get away!
